A Brush in my Teeth and Toes to Paint

This is Ron with your Motivational Message:

I found out, firsthand (maybe more accurately “firstmouth”), that painting toenails isn’t as easy as it seems.  God has blessed me with daughters, so I continually pray for the blessing of creativity because sometimes I have a hard time relating to their interests.

I was sitting at the countertop in the dining area drinking tea from a bowl Kelli had placed on a stack of books.  I had been watching Gracie, our seven year old, in between the commercial breaks of the popular show “So You Think You Can Dance?”, concentrating intently on painting her fingernails.  I looked at the countertop and the stack of books and without giving much thought I said, “Gracie, why don’t you let Daddy paint your toenails?”

She looked at me with excitement in her face and replied, “Okay.”  We had to work out a process: she crawled onto the countertop and then placed her toes on top of the stacked books.   I picked out the color red and she held out the polish brush for me to bite onto.  I could barely see the end of the brush out from under the plastic cap, making it incredibly hard to focus on her tiny toenails.

But moments later, with patience and some skill, we had accomplished our first attempt at painting toenails by mouth.  Kelli helped us make a short video documenting this unique father/daughter moment.  I must say, even though my neck ached and I am a little braindead from the fumes, I felt proud of myself.  Gracie was amazed that I was able to stay within the lines and told me that I did a good job.  How’d I do?  You be the judge!  Click below to watch the short video:

Please feel free to pass this along to your friends—Gracie and I are interested to know if anyone has ever painted toes before without using their hands or feet?

To your inspiration,

Ron

  2. That is precious! You inspired me 15 years ago and continue to do so Ron.

Lord bless and keep you and your family. I love you!

  3. I’ve got to say I have never painted toe nails with hands or mouth. I would think you would go a little cross eyed with that short brush. Never anything you won’t try. Great job and video. Gracie is so cute !!!!!!!!!

  4. What a great example of a Daddy making his daughter feel like a Princess! Thanks for sharing this special moment. I miss you guys!

  5. I love this Father-Daughter story. You teach many of us what life is really about Ron. Love and appreciate you bunches.

I wonder if your ears are ringing. I share about you often. People often ask me why I’m so positive and upbeat and I share this: “I learned it from my friend Ron Heagy. When he was 17 yrs old, he had it all. Just graduated, athletic, and celebrating life. He broke his neck while surfing off of the San Diego coast. He was paralyzed from the neck down.

He’s amazing. Got some degrees using a stick in his mouth at a computer. Has a great wife and daughters. Great motivational speaker. Paints beautiful art with a mouth stick.

Every morning he wakes us and says, “It’s gonna be a GREAT day!” I decided that if Ron can do that, I can to. And when I do, it’s a DONE DEAL.

It is so much fun seeing the Ah Hah moment in their faces. We often have a great conversation and enjoy just being around another positive friend.

I’m so happy to be alive today. I had some major health challenges myself. I lost my health; it took me 20 yrs to get my most valuable resource back. I just turned 73 yrs and look and feel better than when I was in my 40s. My goal is to help others learn quicker than I did. My personal goal is to have the wisdom of a 70+ yrs old and the health and vitality of at least 20 yrs younger.

I sent you a Skype request to connect. Would love to have a chat if that is OK with you.

  6. Thank you for sharing your life and loves of your life with me via You tube videos! I look forward to your sweet message every week and when I see your name in my inbox, I can hardly wait for the video to load to watch what you have to say next! This spot was heart warming. Gracie is truly a graceful and lovely little girl and your interaction with her is precious. You two, actually three, made my day start with a smile!

  7. Awesome – you are the best toe nail painter I’ve ever met or seen. Gracie those toes of yours are famous. Not many can say a famous painter has painted your toes. Have you dad put his signature on those toes. We love Ron
